As Rotaractors, we share the same goal: to make meaningful change in communities around the world. We take on some of the world’s most difficult challenges to make a difference for the good of all.
Promoting Peace
Today, the globe faces a series of interlocking challenges that are manifesting in violent conflict around the globe. Yet we refuse to accept conflict as a way of life.
Rotary invests in peace education and capacity building, fosters strategic relationships, and integrates peacebuilding into all of Rotary’s programs and service.
We believe that when people work to create peace in their communities, that change can have a global effect.
By carrying out service projects and supporting peace fellowships and scholarships, our members take action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, discrimination, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.
Fighting Disease
We believe good health care is everyone’s right. Yet 4.6 billion people lack access to essential health services.
Building on our successful fight to eliminate polio, we bring together global experts and leaders to improve and expand access to health care and prevent the spread of diseases so that everyone can lead healthy lives.
Rotary collaborates with local, regional, and international health providers to address preventable and treatable causes of illness and death while promoting equitable health for all.
In 2021, the Rotaract Club of Barbados donated ~BBD $60,000 in medical equipment to the Gastrointestinal Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Providing Clean Water
Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life.
When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families.
Improving Maternal and Child Health
Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.
We expand access to quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. In 2020, an estimated 5 million children under the age of 5 years died, mostly from preventable and treatable causes. Approximately half of those deaths, 2.4 million, occurred among newborns (in the first 28 days of life). The leading causes of death in children under 5 years can all be prevented or treated with access to affordable interventions in health and sanitation.
Through our Adopt-A-School initiative, the Rotaract Club of Barbados has positively impacted the lives of 1500+ students and teachers through the donation of school supplies, musical instruments and enhanced learning environments.
Supporting Education
More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. That’s 17% of the world’s adult population.
Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.
Growing Local Economies
Nearly 800 million people live on less than $1.90 a day. Rotary members are passionate about providing sustainable solutions to poverty.
Our members and our foundation work to strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.
We provide training and access to well-paying jobs and financial management institutions.
Protecting the Environment
Rotary shares an interest in protecting our common legacy: the environment.
We are committed to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources and advance ecological sustainability. We empower communities to embrace local solutions, create innovative service projects, and access grants and other resources to foster harmony between people and nature.
